Designed by the renowned Mexican architect Luis Segura, each of the
thatched-roof buildings has its own individual concierge service and sunroof
terrace with Jacuzzi and bar. A shared library, equipped with PC, furnishes a
thoughtful selection of books, videos, and CDs. The rooms’ furnishings and
accessories mirror the styles of different regions across Mexico. Guests also
enjoy data ports, VCRs, CD players, international cable TV, gorgeous ocean views
from private terraces with hammocks, and in-room meals available 24 hours a day.
The
resort’s modified American plan includes sweet rolls and coffee or tea in the
room every morning—plus a full breakfast and dinner of Mediterranean, Mexican,
or spa cuisine at the restaurant Xtabay. Guests typically take lunch at El
Arrecife, a bar and grill near both the beach and the two swimming pools (one
with swim-up bar). In addition, the Lobby Lounge offers cocktails and snacks
from the afternoon until the wee hours.

A
European-style spa features a beauty salon as well as a fitness gym, tai chi and
yoga classes, Swiss showers, sauna, steam bath, Jacuzzi, and separate women’s
and men’s changing facilities. Massages take place on the beach, on the
terraces, on the sunroofs, and inside the spa, where the sumptuous treatment
rooms include private showers adjoining private gardens.
Guests
take advantage of some of the world’s best open-ocean and cave diving nearby, or
they go windsurfing, kayaking, or fishing. Two golf courses wait only 20 minutes
away, and the concierge regularly arranges visits to the nature and
archaeological parks of Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tres Ríos, Tulum, Chichén Itzá, and the
bird-watcher’s paradise of Sian-Kaan. Should guests desire nightlife or
shopping, they simply visit Cancun or Playa del Carmen, each just 20 minutes
away.
Returning to Ceiba del Mar, they reenter a zone of peace in one of the world’s
most beautiful natural locations. They can also indulge in the exclusive option
of taking a temascal, a steam bath from the days of the ancient Aztecs.
The ritual therapy takes place directly on the beach at sunset, within a
torch-lit terra-cotta hut, using hot volcanic rocks and aromatic herbs. The
treatment invariably renews the body, mind, and spirit—just like the rest of
guests’ stay at Ceiba del Mar.
