Hotelito Desconocido Costa Alegre,
Mexico

The
encounter with Hotelito Desconosido makes feel the heat
and wealth that the Mexican Earth offers by tradition to which
adventure through her; the simplicity of its architecture
seems to integrate itself to the surroundings, almost with the
same mildness whereupon the old settlers did.

Ecological
Luxury on the "Costa Alegre", Jalisco, Mexico
Spread
on 100 acres of lush tropical gardens, the Hotelito
Desconosido has 12 thatched cottages on stilts (called palafitos)
ringed by a fresh-water estuary, and 12 additional units on
pristine wide-sand beach where there is a bar, restaurant and
swimming-pool.
Each
luxurious "Palafito" has its own enchanting
character and design theme and is decorated with art, antiques
and crafts acquired throughout Mexico even the gauze-draped
king-size beds are hand crafted. Colorful hand-painted frescos
are everywhere. Balconies have hammocks for lazing and
watching sunsets. Platforms just below the balconies are fine
for sunning, diving in for a swim, or docking rowboats.
Immense bathrooms feature hand-painted ceramic double sinks,
large showers that are semi-outdoors, and amenities of herbal
soaps, shampoos, creams and other toiletries.
This
is the concept and creation of prominent Italian fashion
designer Marcello Murzilli, who found paradise here. His
concept of "ecological luxury" is a dream he made
come true. The resort is solar powered, costing him many times
more to build than a standard electricity-powered place, but
it’s worth it. And at night, a thousand candles and torches
are lit. It’s gorgeous!
The
dining room and bar are congenial with live music or solar
powered stereo, card and billiard playing, socializing or
simply stargazing from the unique outdoor lounge. A vast
on-premise orchard grows organic vegetables and an array of
tropical of fruits. Seafood is catch-of-the-day and meat and
poultry are free-range.

Hotelito
Desconocido is located on the Mexican Pacific, a 1-1/2-hour
drive south of Puerto Vallarta on an unspoiled coastline away
from the main highway. This is the state of Jalisco, the
quintessential Mexico: it’s the land of tequila, mariachis,
and rodeos with extraordinary techniques of horsemanship and
Mexican "cowboys" known as charros. Jalisco is known for its friendly people, smiling and
happy. That is why this coastal region is called Costa
Alegre ("happy coast"). And at Hotelito, it’s
always service with a genuine smile.
The
sybaritic "mini-Spa" called Mundo de Salud (World of
Health) features an exercise/relaxation area, yoga and
stretching classes, facials, reflexology, herbal sauna and
whirlpool.
Additional
activities: wind surfing, sailing, row boating and kayaking;
mountain biking; horseback riding; beach volleyball, bird
watching and, during the nesting season (June trough
December), visits to the sea turtle grounds along the
hotel’s beach area that extends for 20 miles – this is a
protected nature reserve. Sport fishing can be arranged, and
there are excursions to little fishing villages and to
offshore islands great for snorkeling. Nearby, a placid
mountain lake provides excellent bass fishing.
